With deadline/exam season officially coming to an end, I think it’s safe to say that I need a holiday. However, booking something abroad this last minute can be very expensive! And sometimes hard to organise. I’ve found that small day trips and weekend get aways are a great way to keep me entertained during the summer months and after only working over the summer to save for Uni, now that I’m finished, I think it’s time some long overdue relaxation time.

As someone who can’t drive getting to places can prove difficult, which is why my student railcard is my best friend! Sometimes you don’t realise how cheap travel can be if you really look. On trainline you can get a ticket to London for £14! If you pick the right day and time. So, make sure if you’re planning a trip via public transport that you do your research to find the best deals. A fun day out idea from Salford Cresent is to head to Blackpool. You can get an anytime day return ticket for £15 and go and enjoy a walk along the beach and go to the arcades and have fish and chips by the sea. Plus, if you have a slightly larger budget you can go to Blackpool Tower and see the circus for £15 or head to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and have a thrill-seeking time on the rides for £29 for a whole day, unlimited ride ticket. Although you won’t catch me on the big rides, I’m more of a Wallace and Gromit ride person.

This year for me the holiday has finally made it out of the group chat! I’m heading to the lake district with my friends and staying in a Haven Caravan Park for a week. If you haven’t looked at this for you and your friends, I highly suggest you do! If you book out of summertime you can get some amazing deals and because the price of the caravan would be split between everyone it’s a great cheap holiday, get away. Theres loads of different locations but be sure to pick one that has lots to do onsite and off. Did someone say spoons and bingo in a caravan park!

Sometimes solo trips are the best way for people to relax and have a break, I enjoy spending my money on trips to London, my top tip if you want to go for a few nights is to book a Premier Inn Hotel outside of London but near a tube station as they are A LOT cheaper than hotels in the centre of London. And of course, if you don’t mind sharing with people Wombats Hostel by Tower Bridge is a great place to stay if you want to be more central. And don’t worry about travel expenses, tubes and busses in London have a cap on tickets so it won’t go over a certain price each day depending on your usage, as someone who loves to go on the tube it is the best way to get around London and don’t worry about missing trains there’s always one two mins later. You will never catch me running for the tube.

Sometimes these small trips and days out cab make the summer so much better and there perfect for going alone or with a group of friends. I know I’m looking forward to everything I’ve got planned and some well-deserved time off.
