Obviously in Greater Manchester, we’ve been ahead of the curve! Whilst new PM Andy gets ready to roll out the £2 bus fare across the nation, us Mancs have been enjoying this as a part of the Bee Network for the last couple of years.
Think of Salford as your gateway to the North West! Here are some of the exciting routes you can take to get you off of campus, and what you can see on the way:
MediaCity UK
Some of you might already study at our MCUK campus and already know all of the area secrets! But for those of you who don’t know, as a Salford student you can use your student card to get to and from Peel Park campus to MCUK campus on the 50 bus for FREE!
Whilst you’re there, here are some of our highlights:
- MCUK Coffee Hut: We’ve opened a new Coffee Hut site! So, come first week of September you’ll be able to bag your £1 coffees, enjoy all the seasonable spirits and even get a breakfast bite ahead of your lectures.
- Salford Water Sports: Sick of having no where to go for a dip in these heat waves? Here you can do outdoor swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and more.
- Restaurants, cinema, theatre: If you don’t want to go all the way to town, MCUK has lots to offer
Didsbury:
The 50 bus goes down south outside the Peel Park campus too! Not only is it an easy way to get to town, but the 50 bus will also go through our neighbouring university areas for a different side of student life. You can stop off at the MMU and UoM campuses, but also make the most of student deals in some of the more “student-friendly suburbs” in the Manchester area. These include Fallowfield and Withington!
The final stops of the bus route take you to Didsbury, and here are some of top picks of the area:
- Fletcher Moss: A botanical garden, tennis courts and canal side walk – this is the perfect area for a picnic on a sunny day!
- Didsbury Dozen: Want to get out of Salford for a special occasion? This is a rival for the Otley Run for a fancy dress themed bar crawl – a right of passage!
- GoodTimes Games: Burton Road is full of cute independent coffee shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants – this includes GoodTimes! They’re an independent boardgames café with a full vegan menu with great snacks, treats and drinks.
Heaton Park:
The 156 from Shudehill (a quick change from getting the 8 or 67 outside of University of Salford campus) will take you over to the Heaton Park area. Alongside some lovely independent cafes and bars, is the home to Parklife – the massive Heaton Park!
It’s a lovely place for a weekend walk any time of year and features a little petting farm, a beautiful viewpoint and even a pond where you can rent a swan boat! Recently it has also become home to the UK’s longest outdoor forest tubing course, courtesy of Zip World. Definitely one to check out with your friends, and a fab place to go when family come to visit.
