About the Role
Role Title: Sports Administrator (Graduate Intern)
Hours: 35-hours per week (to be worked flexibly)
Salary: £24,827.52 (Band A)
Duration: 2 years fixed term
Reporting to: Sports Lead
Role Purpose
This role is all about helping students feel connected through sport and physical activity. You’ll support the delivery of programmes and activities across the sport and physical activity pathway that builds communities, friendships and spaces to develop. You’ll work closely with student leaders, clubs, and staff to co-create student-led opportunities within sports clubs to introduce new sports/activities to students. Whether it’s coordinating events, gathering feedback, or making sure spaces and programmes are welcoming and inclusive, you’ll play a vital role in building strong, diverse, and connected student communities through sport.
Main Responsibilities and Activities
- Support the planning and development of programmes, events, and engagement activities across the sport and physical activity pathway.
- Help gather insight and feedback from students and communities to shape future plans.
- Assist with creating training sessions, drop-ins and resources for student leaders and volunteers.
- Contribute ideas to improve how we support students to lead and grow their own communities.
- Support students and volunteers to run inclusive, engaging activities, and make sure they feel confident and prepared.
- Help coordinate programme logistics and administration – booking facilities, transport, match officials, BUCS Play.
- Contribute to internal reports, and work with the Marketing & Communications Team to highlight success stories through social media.
- Help maintain accurate records of activities, sign-ups, and student engagement.
- Help with feedback tracking and engagement reporting to support internal planning and improvement.
- Be a friendly and welcoming point of contact for students who want to get involved in physical activity and sport.
- Build relationships with student leaders, sports club committee members and community volunteers.
- Support communication and collaboration between different communities, sports clubs, and SU teams.
- Worth with external partners including National Governing Bodies, County Sport Partners and BUCS to remain compliant and developmental.
- Work with staff across the SU and University to promote opportunities and ensure students feel part of the wider community.
- Ensure compliance with the Union’s policies, University policies and all relevant legislation – including Health and Safety, 1992 Education Act and Data Protection.
- Help our Full Time Officers achieve their manifesto commitments.
- Actively engage in student-facing projects and activities of all kinds as required.
- Be an enthusiastic advocate for student leadership and the organisation’s values.
- Maintain your own professional networks and promote the Union on a local and national level.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
- Recent graduate or graduating in 2023 or later from the University of Salford. You must have completed your studies before starting the role.
- Some experience supporting events, campaigns, or projects, either in a professional or voluntary capacity.
- Understanding of the importance of inclusion and community in a university setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Able to demonstrate friendly, confident and approachable communication with a wide range of people.
- Able to manage your time, meet deadlines and ask for help when needed.
- Willing to learn and try new things.
