CAHN Collaboration

I’m thrilled to announce that following the Black History Month (BHM) event we hosted in collaboration with the Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN) back in October 2024, Salford Students' Union is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with CAHN.

This collaboration is aimed at supporting and empowering students by tackling the wider social factors that affect health, wellbeing, and student success.

CAHN is a public health-focused advocacy service that supports individuals by addressing health-related social problems – the real-life challenges that can have long-term effects on wellbeing.

These include issues such as:

· Poor housing conditions
· Immigration status uncertainties
· Access to healthcare or education
· Family-related matters, including social service involvement
· Employment barriers and welfare access

Their services are free, confidential, and open to all.

What CAHN Offers to Salford Students

Legal Drop-In Sessions Covering a range of essential topics, these sessions connect students with legal experts who offer insights and answer questions. Previous topics have included:
· Landlord and tenant rights
· Wills and probate
· Police station rights
Civil liberties Home Office Drop-In Sessions Run in collaboration with the Home Office National Community Engagement Team, these sessions address key issues such as:
· Postgraduate visas
· E-visa transition
· Careers in the civil service

No enforcement action is taken during or after these sessions – they’re purely supportive and informative.

Family and Advocacy Webinars Led by professionals in social work and family life, these webinars offer practical knowledge on parenting in the UK, understanding the school system, SEND (special educational needs and disabilities), housing, and more.

Upcoming Webinars:

· Legal Drop-In Sessions
· Home Office Drop-in Sessions
