Finding your perfect solo date

Find your perfect solo date in manchester to help brighten your day and combat loneliness.

news

Over my time at uni i've found that the best ways to stop that feeling of loneliness is by taking myself out on solo dates. From exploring the city or going to an event it really helps you to fight those inner negative thoughts and brightens your day. Sometimes there's a lot of pressure to socialise with others to combat these feelings, but this article is all about how just getting out the house and being around others can really help (even if you're doing the activities alone)!

Here are my top solo date ideas around Manchester and Media City.
(And of course all of these activities are either free or can be done on a student friendly budget!)

Museums and Exhibitions

Theres loads of FREE museums to explore around the area. Such as:

  • The Manchester Art Gallery (Mosley Street)
  • The Imperial War Museum (Media City)
  • Science and Industry Museum (Liverpool Road)
  • Manchester Museum (Oxford Road)
  • National Football Museum (Todd Street)

Or if you fancy something new why not try an immersive experience. That can show you the art of David Hockney or even the Lost city of Machu Picchu. To find more of these amazing events go to Immersive Experiences in manchester Keep an eye out for the student ticket prices.

Cheeky Trip to the Theatre

Theatre is for everyone to enjoy! And with so many amazing theatres around Manchester hosting not just musicals but plays and comedians as well. Definitely consider a solo theatre trip for a fun night or afternoon out!
Here are a few coming to Manchester:

  • Operation Mince meat (16th Feb- 28th Feb, Lowry Theatre)
  • Priscilla Queen of the Desert (19th Feb- 28th Feb. Palace theatre)
  • Mean Girls the Musical. (23rd Feb- 7th March. Opera House)
  • Mama Mia (3rd March- 21st March. Palace theatre)
  • Comedian Chris Ramsey. (13th March- 14th March. Opera House)
  • Matteo Lane Comedy tour (11th April. Opera house)

Most of these theatres do discounted tickets for students so make sure to keep an eye out for them!

Become A Master baker

Why not try out a new hobby to keep yourself entertained. Become the next Mary Berry and expand your baking skills using the BBC Good Food Website, perfect for learning a simple new skill and impressing your friends and family. (Just don’t forget the sugar in the cakes, whoops)

Just going into your shared kitchen (or even the building kitchen within your student halls) will encourage you to say hello to someone, or even just get you away from doomscrolling.

Window Shopping

Going on a shopping trip can be cheap if you Window shop! Manchester City centre has hundreds of shops spreading across the city. Why not set yourself a fun task of exploring new shops around northern quarter, there’s plenty of hidden gems. And a cheeky coffee in one of the many cafes cant hurt either!

There's so much more to explore around manchester and the surrounding areas and hopefully these ideas can help you get started. So go out there and get exploring!
