Akinwale, your Students’ Union President, shares what’s ahead and what he’s focused on this new academic year. From student wellbeing to sports facilities, there’s plenty to get involved in and look forward to!
Hey Salford students👋
I’m Akinwale, your SU President. Whether you’re a nervous fresher or coming back for another year, welcome (or welcome back) to campus. This year is yours to shape!
As a student in the School of Science, Engineering and Environment, I'm more than aware uni can be exciting, intense, and well sometimes a bit overwhelming. But I’ve also seen how powerful it is when students come together, when we support each other, speak up, and make things happen.
What’s Coming Up📅
This year at Salford, we're all about creating a campus that feels more inclusive, more connected, and well more you. We want every student to feel seen, supported, and ready to thrive.
So, here’s how you can get involved and make the most of uni life:
- Join a society or sports team🥇

Whatever you’re into, whether it's sports, anime, activism - there’s always a space for you. Joining in with socities and sports tasters are a well-known way of gaining new hobbies and making life-long friendships.
- Look after your wellbeing🧘♀️

Your mental health matters. The SU is expanding support and creating more places to rest, recharge, and reconnect. Never hesitate to reach out to anyone on the team - whether you need advice, a safe space, or simply someone to talk to. We’re always here for you!
- Use your SU🎓

Whilst you may not see us all the time, we are all here to represent you, run campaigns, and most importantly make sure your voice is heard.
- Volunteer or lead🤝

Get stuck into projects, take on roles, and build skills that go beyond your degree. Whether it be within the SU or related to your chosen career path, you’ll gain skills that stay with you for life (also it looks great on your CV!).
What I’m Focused On As SU President
This year I'm working on:
- Making all welcome experiences more meaningful and inclusive.
- Ensuring students have a real say in university decisions.
- Upgrading sports facilities so more of you can get involved.
- Promoting transparency in all things from, housing, academic support, and SU services.
Let’s Make It Count💪
Whilst uni is a lot about the doom and gloom of lectures and deadlines - it’s about community, growth, and making your time here matter. I’m here to listen, work with you, and help build a campus culture that reflects who we are.
So either welcome to Salford, or welcome back, let’s make it the best year yet!
Warm regards,
