Statement from Salford Students’ Union Officers on the Crisis in the Middle East

news

We know that the escalating tensions and conflict in the Middle East, including Iran & neighbouring countries will be deeply worrying for many members of our student community.

At the University of Salford, many students have personal, cultural, and family connections to the region. For some, this may mean concerns about the safety and wellbeing of loved ones, uncertainty about events unfolding back home, or feeling overwhelmed by the news and its impact. Our thoughts are with everyone in our community who may be affected during this difficult time.

Salford Students’ Union wants to remind students that they are not alone. Global events can have a very personal impact, and during moments like this it is important that our community continues to show empathy, understanding and care for one another.

We are also aware that some students may be facing financial uncertainty, particularly those who rely on financial support from family members in the region. If you are experiencing difficulties or are concerned about funding your studies or living costs, support is available.

The University’s Career Services can help students explore part-time job opportunities and provide support with CV writing, job applications and interview preparation. Students looking for on-campus roles are also encouraged to contact Unitemps, which regularly advertises part-time opportunities within the University. You can also contact AskUs regarding the International Support Fund.

If you are feeling affected or would like someone to talk to, there are support services available:

We encourage students to look after themselves and to check in with friends and peers who may be finding this time particularly difficult.

In times of global uncertainty, the strength of our university community lies in supporting one another with kindness, compassion and understanding.
