Have you ever come across something at uni and thought, “I wish my uni did this better?”
Most of us have, whether it’s placements, events, or even making uni life a little more pocket friendly.
Spoiler alert, it’s actually possible to get what you want out of your uni.
How? That’s where the Student Officers come in.
“Who are these officers now?”
Well, every year, the Students’ Union employs five students to take charge and make real changes within the university. In simple terms, they become the voice of students on campus, sit in important meetings with the university directors, represent student concerns, and work all year to improve student life.
But the question remains, how are these officers chosen? Drumroll please… Enter ELECTIONS!! You choose your leader!
Now, the SU has different roles, but it’s not as complicated as it sounds. There is one President who represents the entire university and leads the officer team, plus each school has its own representative who focuses on issues specific to that school as well as anything they feel needs to be changed within the university. We want to support all of your passions within student life as an officer.

“What do I need to stand in these elections?”
Just two things.
Good ideas and strong determination. That’s it.
“But I’ve never done anything like this before. How would I even win?”
News Flash, elections are usually a new experience for most students who apply, so you don’t need prior election experience at all. And yes, it can sound scary, which is exactly why the SU supports you through every step. From shaping your ideas, planning your campaign, promoting yourself, to handling the smallest details, we guide you all the way.
So, if you believe you have what it takes to be the voice of your fellow university friends, then STAND IN YOUR ELECTIONS NOW .
“What’s in it for me though?”
Well for starters, you become a full-time, paid SU officer, earning £24,827 per year. In layman terms, that’s a direct graduate-level role and a massive boost to your CV.
Beyond that, you join the trustee board, helping decide how money is spent for the students. You also get to work on causes you genuinely care about, with full support from the SU to make them happen.
“So… what does the whole process look like?”
In three words. Stand. Campaign. Win.

And if standing isn’t for you, that’s completely fine. Voting is just as important, if not more. You get to decide who leads your school and your university for the next year. Keep your eyes peeled for the voting week later in March.
At the end of the day, it’s not complicated at all.
It’s all about improving student life and helping create the uni experience you want.
